ILOILO CITY – The Department of Public Works and Highways’ P44-million road widening project that will hopefully ease travel to and from northern Iloilo province has been completed.
“Completing this road widening project is a significant accomplishment, improving the transportation infrastructure in northern Iloilo to provide better access and mobility to our constituents," said Nerie Bueno of DPWH region 6.
*The road widening project in Barotac Nuevo town, Iloilo province. It spans two kilometers and traverses three barangays. (DPWH-6)*
The project undertaken by DPWH’s Iloilo 2nd District Engineering Office is part of the Iloilo East Coast-Capiz Road. It traverses three barangays (villages) in Barotac Nuevo town, namely, Barangay Badiang, Barangay Serallo and Barangay Tinori-an. The two-kilometer road was widened from two to four lanes to decongest traffic of vehicles passing along the route. The project is also expected to promote economic growth and development in the area as it will improve the transportation of goods and services, especially that northern Iloilo province is a major source of fish and other seafood. The project is also timely as summer is approaching and northern Iloilo has been promoted as an alternative beach destination. “The DPWH would continue to work on projects that will enhance the infrastructures and contribute to the socio-economic development of Iloilo,” added Bueno.
