Velasco With the government-enforced stay-at-home policy because of the coronavirus pandemic, Uy-led Family Mart is partly shifting its services to delivery as well as on the rollout of rolling stores. On its re-positioning to serve customers, Family Mart noted that its offer of delivery could “make its products more accessible,” because this would enable it to bring basic essentials and selection of goodies to various neighborhoods in Metro Manila. The Family Mart is an acquisition from the Ayala group and its Japanese partner back in 2017, when Davao businessman Dennis Uy was just taking initial steps on robustly growing his investment portfolio. From a network of 67 stores then, that had grown in the past three years – as its stores had also been integrated into the operations of its oil firm Phoenix Petroleum Philippines Inc. During the extended enhanced community quarantine (ECQ), it was noted that the company’s ‘Fam on Wheels’ “will be visiting communities to provide a variety of items from 8:00am to 5:00pm.” Phoenix Petroleum President and COO Henry Albert Fadullon asserted that “while many of our stores remain open to be of service, we want to bring Family Mart closer to where we are needed.” He qualified “our ‘Fam on Wheels’ and delivery service are a way for us to provide alternative convenience during this enhanced community quarantine, while also ensuring the safety of our customers and personnel,” with him adding that “Family Mart will continue to innovate and adapt its services depending on the needs of the community.” The convenience store firm said it will be “offering contactless transaction and payment options to ensure the safety of everyone.” For the rolling stores, it was emphasized that “these stores will be stationed in Phoenix gas stations where customers can visit and get their supplies.” The oil firm further noted that “aside from the truck, a tent will be set up for the displays and a menu board will indicate products available,” Additional details on product availability may also be viewed by interested individuals via the Family Mart’s facebook page. Starting on April 26 (Sunday), Phoenix Petroleum announced that Metro Manila residents can already order Family Mart food products via facebook messenger. “Initially, six Family Mart stores will start offering delivery service through Grab Food and Lalamove Food,” the Uy-owned company said.
