The Mandaluyong City government launched Monday its booklet for solo-parent ID holders, making it the very first city in the country to launch such an initiative.
Led by Mandaluyong City Mayor Menchie Abalos, the launch was held at the City Hall Executive Building.
Abalos said that the program is part of the city's initiative to give more benefits to solo parents in Mandaluyong.
The booklet is similar to the ones issued to senior citizens and PWDs.
Solo parents can use the IDs issued by the city government along with the new booklet to avail of discounts on purchases as well as on medical and social services from commercial establishments and government facilities in the city.
Abalos lauded City Councilor Grace Antonio, principal author of the Solo Parent Ordinance, and the city council for thoroughly crafting the said local law.
"We are encouraging all solo parents in the city to register at the CSWD office so they can avail of the benefits entitled to them," the mayor said.
Under City Ordinance No. 745, S-2019 or the "Solo Parents' Ordinance of Mandaluyong City," any qualified individual who has taken the sole responsibility of parenthood can register himself/herself as a solo parent and be issued an ID and the booklet which are renewable annually.
"We hope this booklet will help registered solo parents avail the discounts and services mandated to them more efficiently," Antonio said.
