44 women rescued from prostitution dens in Manila, Valenzuela

Cruz Police Station rescued 19 women along the stretch of Rizal Avenue corner Recto Avenue in Manila on Sunday at about 1:45 a.m. Police said they gathered intelligence reports before proceeding with the operation. Investigation showed that the women would hang around the said area and wait for men to approach them. They charge at least P500 per night, one of the rescued women said. Meanwhile, elements of the Valenzuela City Police Station-Women and Children's Protection Desk conducted Oplan Magdalena at five resto bars in the barangays of Dalandanan, Malanday, Karuhatan, Paso De Blas, and Malinta on Saturday and Sunday. Twenty-five women, including a minor, were rescued while the floor managers of the resto bars were arrested. Police said that the said resto bars in Valenzuela are also operating without health permits. According to the police, the rescued women were brought to the Department of Social Welfare and Development. Charges for violation of Republic Act 7610 or the Special Protection of Children Against Abuse, Exploitation and Discrimination Act, as well as other appropriate charges, will be pressed against the arrested floor managers, police said.
