TikTok's global video community keep on sharing fascinating and informational content, including animals that you don’t see every day.
In celebration of World Animal Day, and to increase awareness of the impact of our actions to animals, we listed five unique species as featured on TikTok videos, which hopefully make us appreciate our Earth co-habitants even more.
Axolotl owes its cute appearance to its rare trait of retaining its larval features throughout its adult life. This creature has regeneration abilities enabling it to regrow its leg, or tail, even a bit of its heart. The animal is named after the Aztec god, Xolotl, who is said to have transformed into an axolotl to avoid being sacrificed. If not in an aquarium, this type of salamander can be exclusively found in Xochimilco Lake in Mexico. Axolotls are classified as critically endangered species.
Giant Cave Cockroach is considered as one of the largest cockroaches known to man as one can grow up to 4 inches in length! This breed is not considered as household pest because of its vital role to break down organic matter into soil nutrients. But some people even consider them as pets because of its appearance. Still, like the resident common cockroach, they are scavengers that feed on decaying fruits and veggies.
Gooty Sapphire Ornamental Tarantula is not your ordinary eight-legged critter. Considered by many enthusiasts as one of the most beautiful spiders existed, this arachnid is definitely a head-turner. The purpose of its blue and metallic appearance even baffles scientists up to date. While researchers look for answers, why not take time to appreciate this nature’s little mystery?
Expect a lot of animals on TikTok as Philippine Animal Welfare Society (PAWS) will launch its official TikTok account this October. Also, TikTok creator Sai Datinguinoo will participate in the upcoming PAWS World National Day Activity on October 6, 2019, 3:00 PM at the SM Skydome, SM North EDSA. See you there!
