The low-pressure area (LPA) monitored near Mindanao developed into a tropical depression and is expected to enter the country on Tuesday.
In the 5 p.m. weather update of the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), the tropical depression was last spotted off 2,625 kilometers east of Mindanao.
Once it enters the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) on Tuesday it will be locally referred to as “Queenie.”
PAGASA Weather Specialist Ezra Bulquerin said that the weather disturbance packs maximum sustained winds of 45 kilometers per hour (kph) and gustiness of up to 60 kph.
It is moving northwest at 15 kph and may develop into a typhoon before or once it enters PAR, he said.
‘Paeng’ moves away
Meanwhile, typhoon “Paeng” (international name “Trami”) continues to move northwest at a slightly faster pace of 15 kph.
It was last located at 615 km east northeast of Basco, Batanes and still maintains its strength of maximum sustained winds of 165 kph and gustiness of up to 195 kph.
According to PAGASA, Paeng is moving toward Japan and is expected to exit PAR on Saturday morning.
PAGASA said that as it moves farther away, the typhoon has no direct effect on the country.
However, partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers will prevail over Metro Manila and the rest of the country due to localized thunderstorms.
While no storm warning signal was raised, PAGASA warned the public that sea travel remains risky over the northern and eastern seaboards of Luzon and the eastern seaboard of Visayas.
