BJMP pursues crackdown of contraband in its facilities

By Chito Chavez The Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) assured that there will be no let-up in the crackdown of contraband in its manned facilities.

Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (MANILA BULLETIN) BJMP-National Capital Region director Chief Supt. Ignacio Panti said there will be continuous greyhound operations in its jail until all contrabands are seized from Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDL) and even rogue BJMP personnel alike. To recall, a series of greyhound operations were conducted in recent weeks in four BJMP-NCR jails that yielded improvised weapons, cell phones, suspected shabu, and several others. Joint operatives of the BJMP NCRO composed of STAR team, Task Force Wolfhound, Regional Intelligence Division and the PDEA-NCR were tasked to conduct surprise inspections in the BJMP Metro Manila jail facilities. As of this week, these teams have already inspected the Quezon City Jail and the Taguig City Jail both male and female dorms respectively. Panti issued an ultimatum to his men to continuously intensify the crackdown of contraband as part of his commitment to ensuring a safer and cleaner jail. He noted that greyhound operations will continue in the BJMP manned jails in the next couple of days. Panti said the intensified greyhound operation is also in relation to the 8th Community Relations Service (CRS) Month celebrated this June. However, Panti explained the CRS Month is not only celebrated with more greyhounds but also the conduct of other worthwhile activities like the clean-up drive of Manila Bay and other waterways, outreach programs, trade fair of products made by persons deprived of liberty (PDLs), legal and medical missions and job fairs for jail officer recruitment under the theme “Magbantay, Mag-ugnay, Magmalasakit (Guard, Connect and be Passionate).
