Defective SD cards delay canvassing in Zamboanga del Norte; winners await proclamation

By Joseph Jubelag  DIPOLOG CITY- The Commission on Elections has yet to proclaim the winning provincial candidates in Zamboanga del Norte as canvassing of votes is still ongoing with some 30, 000 votes still to be canvassed by the Provincial Board of Canvassers. Atty. Ellis Miguel, provincial election supervisor, said the delay of the canvassing was attributed to the more than 140 defective SD cards of the Voters Counting Machines that failed to transmit election results from the 27 municipalities and two cities of the province right after the balloting last Monday. He said the defective SD cards had to be brought for replacement to the Comelec's regional technical hub in Zamboanga City. “At least 140 SD cards malfunctioned which caused the delay in the transmission of election results from the polling precincts to the PBOC,” Miguel, who chairs the PBOC, said. He explained that the PBOC was able to conduct the canvassing of votes on Thursday after the defective SD cards have been replaced. As of Saturday the PBOC had canvassed more than 420,000 votes out of the 450,000 votes translating to some 96 percent of the total votes cast. Incumbent Gov. Roberto Uy is leading against arch-rival former Congressman Rommel Jalosjos with a very slim margin of votes 212,000 against 208,000.
