Yap wins as Bohol governor by slim edge

By Dave Albarado TAGBILARAN CITY - Deputy House Speaker Arthur Yap won as governor of Bohol by a hairline over former Cabinet Secretary Leoncio Evasco Jr. in Monday’s elections. Evasco said in a statement he will file a failure of elections, citing massive vote buying in the province. The provincial board of canvassers proclaimed Yap early Thursday morning. Damaged secure digital (SD) cards from three towns caused the delay. Two SD cards from Tubigon, one from Panglao, and five from Sagbayan town were found to be defective and needed to be reconfigured before the canvassing could continue. Yap garnered 326,895 votes to hold a slim 2,161-vote lead over Evasco. Yap told reporters he is grateful for the opportunity to serve the province. He also dismissed Evasco’s accusations. Bohol's provincial election supervisor Eddie Aba said it was Evasco's right to file for a failure of elections.
