In an interview with Carlo Pamintuan of ESPN5, Alapag said Vlade Divac, chairman of the FIBA Players’ Commission and general manager of Sacramento, invited him to join the team’s coaching staff.
After their ASEAN Basketball League (ABL) stint ended, Alapag said he got the chance to talk to Divac and cited that he needed to learn more about coaching since he had been head coach for two years only.
Divac then brought up the invitation to which Alapag responded with an “easy decision”, the report added.
"I cherish the opportunity to continue my education in coaching. I've been blessed to have worked with a lot of great coaches in the PBA and with Gilas Pilipinas and I'm excited to learn more from the coaches in the NBA,” Alapag told ESPN5.
On Instagram, Alapag thanked Divac and the Sacramento Kings organization for the opportunity.
“As a Coach, it’s important to continue to grow and learn,” the multi-awarded former PBA guard captioned.
