Nxled thumps PLDT, bounces back from loss

Nxled came out sizzling dumped defending champion PLDT, 25-19, 25-22, 25-20, to barge into the winning column of the PVL Invitational 2026 at the Smart Araneta Coliseum on Tuesday, Sept.1.
Still licking their wounds from their four-set loss to the Creamline Cool Smashers less than 24 hours ago, the Chameleons took out their frustrations on the High Speed Hitters to even their win-loss record at 1-1.
MJ Phillips spearheaded the Nxled assault by pumping in eight kills and four aces to finish with 13 points, while skipper Myla Pablo took charge defensively with three blocks to chip in 12 points.
Nxled coach Ettore Guidetti said his stalwarts responded well with the defeat by playing better.
“(Today) simply confirmed we played pretty good volleyball. We’re getting better. Our defense especially worked better compared to (yesterday) and we also served much, much better today,” he said.
So impressive were the Chameleons that they only gave up 12 points on errors throughout the one hour, 30-minute match compared to the High Speed Hitters, who stumbled into 21 unforced errors.
Though PLDT held the edge in attacks, 44-41, Nxled made the most of its net defense with seven blocks. The Chameleons also capitalized on the High Speed Hitters’ shaky first ball, firing six aces to keep PLDT on the back foot.
Lyann De Guzman also paced Nxled by pouring all her 10 points on attacks, while Gel Cayuna distributed the ball well with 15 excellent sets.
Savi Davison was the lone bright spot for PLDT after erupting for 20 points, but couldn’t get the needed support as none from her teammates scored in double figures. Mika Reyes was limited to eight points, while Kianna Dy and Majoy Baron were held to just four and three points, respectively.
The High Speed Hitters fell to a 1-1card, failing to follow up their four-set win over EST Cola on Monday, Aug. 31.
