Palace orders alternative government work set-up, learning modes in 15 provinces on Sept 1

Alternative work arrangements in government offices and alternative learning modes in public and private schools will be implemented on Tuesday, Sept. 1 due to continued heavy rains.

Through Memorandum Circular No. 133, President Marcos ordered the alternative government work and class set-up in 15 provinces in Luzon. 

The directive covers the provinces of Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, La Union, Pangasinan, Abra, Benguet, Kalinga, Mountain Province, Apayao, Batanes, Nueva Vizcaya, Zambales, Tarlac, Pampanga, and Bataan.

It was issued upon the recommendation of the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC).
 
Agencies involved in the delivery of basic and health services, disaster preparedness and response, and other vital services shall continue their operations and provide the necessary services.

Contract of Service (COS) and Job Order (JO) workers placed under alternative work arrangements will continue to receive their corresponding wages or salaries, subject to applicable rules and regulations, the memorandum stated.

The circular also allows local chief executives to implement localized cancellation or suspension of classes and/or work in government offices in other areas, in accordance with relevant laws, rules and regulations.

The suspension of work or adoption of alternative work arrangements in the private sector, however, will be left to the discretion of management.
