Baguio police to step up security amid fears of retaliation linked to bullying incident

BAGUIO CITY – The Baguio City Police Office (BCPO) has committed to implementing security measures in response to reports of possible retaliation following a bullying incident at Pinget National High School, aiming to ensure the safety of all those involved.
BCPO City Director PCol. Ruel Tagel stated that protective measures would be implemented for all parties involved to guarantee their safety while authorities assess reports suggesting a risk of retaliation.
He noted an increase in statements and strong calls for retaliation on social media following the incident.
Tagel assured that they would remain vigilant and strive to ensure the safety of everyone involved. "We will deploy additional police personnel to conduct regular patrols around Pinget National High School."
He mentioned that the school had requested increased police presence from BCPO Station 2, as well as active patrolling by the barangays surrounding the school, to help prevent similar incidents.
Meanwhile, City Social Welfare and Development Officer Liza Bulayungan stated that the barangays of Pinget, Pinsao Proper, and Pinsao Pilot have also pledged to strengthen community-level interventions for child protection.
"All participating agencies, school officials, and parents have pledged to uphold accountability, rehabilitation, monitoring, and, above all, the protection of the children's rights and welfare; they will also ensure the safety of the victim, the respondents, their families, school staff, and other community members while the case is being addressed through the proper mechanisms," stated Balungayan.
