LUBAO, Pampanga — Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Secretary Vince Dizon inspected the overflowing Sto. Cristo Dam in Lubao, Pampanga, amid continuous heavy rains that caused the Gumain River to swell and contributed to flooding in parts of Barangay Sto. Cristo.

The overflow was linked to the accumulation of logs and other debris that obstructed the flow of water in the dam.

The situation reportedly damaged a portion of the dike, allowing floodwaters to spread into nearby areas.

During the inspection, Dizon assessed the condition of the dam and affected flood-control structures as the Department of Public Works and Highways intensified its response to the worsening flooding in the area.

Following President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s directive, the DPWH is conducting dredging operations to improve water flow and divert excess water from the Main River toward the Pasig-Potrero River.

Clearing operations are also underway to remove logs, garbage, and other obstructions.
