Gee Canlas has spoken at length about her marriage to Archie Alemania, offering her side of their troubled relationship days after the actor publicly discussed their separation and described his own perspective as a husband.
In a recent interview with Ogie Diaz, Gee disputed the picture of their marriage presented by Archie and recounted several incidents she said she endured while they were together.
Archie had earlier spoken about their relationship in an interview with Diaz, saying their marriage suffered because they had conflicting ideas about their roles as husband and wife. He also acknowledged that he had hit Gee with a tumbler during one confrontation.
Gee's account went further, as she described what she said were repeated instances of physical abuse.
She clarified he hit her with a stainless-steel tumbler during an argument. Gee said the impact was strong enough for her to hear what she described as the sound of her skull.
She also recalled another confrontation that she said left her with two fractured ribs.
According to Gee, Archie was preparing to leave during an argument when she tried to stop him. She said he pushed her before punching her in the side, leaving her unable to catch her breath.
Gee said she eventually curled up in pain and later sought medical treatment, where she learned that two of her ribs were fractured.
She said she had kept the incident from her father at the time because she wanted to protect Archie and preserve their family.
“This is the first time na malalaman ito ng dad ko,” Gee said in the interview.
She added that she could take responsibility for her own behavior during arguments but could not accept responsibility for being physically hurt.
“I can only take responsibility for my actions. I can't take responsibility for someone hurting me,” she said.
Gee also recalled what happened after she went to the hospital. She said she spent New Year recovering and was distressed when she later saw photos of Archie and his family celebrating together.
The actress said these experiences were among the reasons she eventually decided to leave the marriage.
Gee and Archie married in October 2018.
Last March, Gee confirmed on "Fast Talk with Boy Abunda"that they had separated and that she was the one who ultimately left the marriage.
Gee stressed that she was prepared to substantiate the claims she made in the interview.
“Everything I say in this interview is backed with evidence,” she said.
