Quezon City orders forced evacuation in flood-prone areas

Quezon City has ordered the forced evacuation of residents in selected areas near slopes and flood-prone communities as rains brought by the southwest monsoon continued to affect the city Saturday, Aug. 29.
The order covers parts of 11 barangays across Districts 1, 3, 4, 5, and 6, according to the Quezon City government’s 3:30 p.m. advisory.
In District 1, the affected barangays are Del Monte, Talayan, Ramon Magsaysay, and Bahay Toro, while Bagumbayan is included in District 3.
Kamuning and Obrero are covered in District 4, North Fairview in District 5, and Culiat, Pasong Tamo, and Apolonio Samson in District 6.
Meanwhile, several other barangays conducted preemptive evacuations in preparation for possible flooding brought by the southwest monsoon.
These include Talayan, Damayang Lagi, Pinagkaisahan, Kalusugan, Manresa, and Kristong Hari.
The Quezon City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Department (QCDRRMD) and barangay officials continued to coordinate evacuation and other safety measures for residents affected by the inclement weather.
The city government also urged barangays not included in the forced-evacuation list to conduct preemptive evacuations if they have areas experiencing flooding or facing the threat of landslides.
Residents needing emergency assistance may call the QC Helpline at 122.
