Missing fisherman found dead after motor banca runs aground in Cagayan

SANTA ANA, Cagayan — The body of a 54-year-old fisherman who went missing after his motor banca was recovered by the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) in Santa Ana, Cagayan on Friday, August 28.
The Coast Guard District North Eastern Luzon (CGDNELZN), through Coast Guard Station Santa Ana and Coast Guard Sub-Station Palaui, recovered the victim during a search and rescue operation launched after his disappearance was reported.
Authorities said the fisherman was reported missing after his motor banca was found along the shoreline of Barangay Palawig.
Coast Guard personnel immediately coordinated with local authorities and maritime agencies and mobilized search teams.
Nearby Coast Guard units were also directed to conduct search efforts within their respective areas of responsibility.
The search later focused on waters beneath Palawig Bridge, where the SAR team located and recovered the victim’s body.
The remains were positively identified by the victim’s relatives and brought to the Rural Health Unit of Santa Ana for proper disposition and turnover to the family.
