CAMP NAKAR, Lucena City- The Quezon Provincial Police Office (PPO) is maximizing the deployment of police personnel to assist school security guards, particularly in public schools, and ensure security checks on students coming to the school campuses in Quezon province.

Police Col. Romulo Albacea, Quezon police director, said in an interview with the media here that police chiefs have been directed to assist the security of the school guards in preventing students from bringing unallowed things while attending their classes.

"Police have no authority to intervene in the school's policy; only police primarily duties are to extend assistance," he said.

Albacea encouraged schools’ administration to use their security forces with metal detectors and other instruments for checking bags as fast as possible, most especially those schools with a huge number of students.

He added that the only role of the police is to assist with police visibility within the surroundings of the school to prevent students from unlawfully doing what happened recently, the shooting incidents in Zamboanga and in Tacloban City.

He advised those police personnel who were assigned to the school not to display guns while assisting the school’s security forces.

Albacea added that only they can provide security assistance to public schools, but in the case of private schools, it depends on the request of the school administrators.
