Aug. 29 class suspensions spread across Metro Manila as Habagat persists

Classes were called off in several parts of Metro Manila on Saturday, Aug. 29, as the southwest monsoon (Habagat) continued to bring rain across the capital.
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) placed Metro Manila under an orange heavy rainfall warning at 5 p.m. Friday, warning that flooding was likely in urban and low-lying areas and along river channels.
Local governments announced the following class suspensions:
Manila — All levels, public and private schools
Malabon City — All levels, public and private schools
Marikina City — All levels, public and private schools
Caloocan City — All levels, public and private schools
Las Piñas City — All levels, public and private schools
Navotas City — All levels, public and private schools
Valenzuela City — All levels, public and private schools
Bulacan
Norzagaray — All levels, public and private schools
PAGASA forecast 50 to 100 millimeters of rain over Metro Manila from Friday through Saturday afternoon, with the same rainfall outlook extending through Sunday afternoon.
The weather bureau said rainfall impacts may be worse in areas already affected by significant rainfall and advised concerned disaster risk reduction and management offices to take necessary measures to protect life and property. (With reports from Metro Team)
