A creative journey for a cause

'Journeys' showcases works by established and emerging Filipino artists, with proceeds supporting free art workshops for underprivileged children

Art can offer more than something to look at. For the artists participating in “Journeys,” it is also a way to help give underprivileged children an alternative outlet through free art workshops.
Organized by Erehwon Art Foundation Inc. in cooperation with Art Lounge Manila (ALM), the fundraising exhibition brings together established and emerging Filipino visual artists, with proceeds from the sale of their works going toward free art workshops for children from disadvantaged communities. The initiative aims to provide them with a creative outlet while steering them away from violence.
The exhibition features works by National Artist nominee Luis “Junyee” Yee, modern sculptor Julie Lluch, and Filipino printmaker Pandy Aviado, alongside works by a younger generation of artists.

“Journeys” was organized with the belief that exposure to positive artistic experiences can play a role in shaping young people's outlook. Event initiator and Erehwon trustee June P. Dalisay, an art conservator, believes that such experiences can influence a more positive psychosocial outlook among the youth.
The exhibition also offers considerable variety in both subject and medium. The works range from serene and colorful to thought-provoking, unusual, and tongue-in-cheek. Materials include acrylic, oil, assemblage, pen and ink, collage, watercolor, and eco-conscious sculpture.

The participating artists include Fil Delacruz, Addie Cukingnan, Aldous Reyes, Allan Derain, Arlene A. Gonzales, Dansoy Coquilla, Demetrio dela Cruz, Dengcoy Miel, Ding Royales, Eden Ocampo, Felix Mago Miguel, Florentino “Jun” Impas Jr., Glenn Gonzales, Glenn Martinez, Grandier Bella, Guia Anne Salumbides, Ianna Engaño, Janos Delacruz, Joar Songcuya, Jose “Chico” Quizon, Jose Dalisay V, June P. Dalisay, Katti Sta. Ana, Kristoffer Tolentino, Lenore RS Lim, Lotsu Manes, Mally Potes, Melanie Libatique, Mitzi Aguilar-Reyes, Nasser Lubay, Otto Neri, Rex “Dasig” Aguilar, Vinty Lava, and Willie de Vera, in addition to Yee, Lluch, and Aviado.
“Journeys” is being held at the Art Lounge Manila Gallery at The Podium mall in Mandaluyong and runs through Aug. 30.
