2 students dead, 12 hurt in Batangas jeepney-truck collision

BATANGAS CITY — Two minor students were killed and 12 others injured in a collision between a passenger jeepney and a truck along the national highway in Barangay Concepcion on Wednesday afternoon, Aug. 26.
The fatalities, both residents of Barangay Simlong, sustained severe injuries and were declared dead on arrival at the hospital.
The injured were taken to separate hospitals for treatment.
Police reported that at about 12:52 p.m., an Isuzu Wingvan truck (UWI825) driven by Ronnie, 55, of Guiguinto, Bulacan, was traveling in the inner lane toward Barangay Mahabang Parang when its brakes allegedly failed.
The truck hit a jeepney (DGH464) driven by Dominador, 58, which was waiting to cross the road.
The truck driver is now in the custody of the Batangas Component City Police Station and faces complaints of reckless driving resulting in multiple injuries, death, and property damage.
