No truth that Jinggoy slipped in the bathroom, BJMP says knee snapped while walking

The Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) denied reports that detained Sen. Jinggoy Estrada slipped in the detention facility's bathroom before his scheduled medical appointment.
BJMP spokesperson Supt. Jayrex Bustinera said that Estrada was walking out of his jail cell when a snap from his knees was heard.
He issued the clarification following online reports saying that Estrada slipped and fell in agonizing pain while taking a bath at the New Quezon City Jail.
On August 26, the beleaguered lawmaker was on his way to the Cardinal Santos Medical Center in San Juan when he experienced excruciating pain in his knee.
From a scale of 10 with 10 being the highest, Estrada reportedly rated the pain at 9.5 while being driven out of the Quezon City Jail Male Dormitory on his way to the hospital.
Estrada has been suffering from joint effusion in his knee joints and intermittent pain in both knees and was previously diagnosed with osteoarthritis, a degenerative condition that affects his mobility.
“Accused Estrada has of late been experiencing a flare-up of persistent pain in both knees, making it acutely difficult for him to walk,” the Sandiganbayan said.
Estrada’s orthopedic physician Dr. Jose Fernando Syquia has recommended for him to undergo an X-ray procedure of both knees with four specific views x x x, to determine whether his illness has worsened.
Clad in a BJMP yellow detainee uniform, a limping Estrada arrived at the hospital with his thick beard and mustache, exhibiting extreme painful facial expression.
Aside from the scheduled X-ray, Estrada’s hospital visit provided the much-needed medical attention for the “severe pain” in his left knee.
Syquia said Estrada’s knee twisted when he stood from a seated position inside the Quezon City Jail Male Dormitory (QCJMD), causing “a meniscal tear.’’
“Napunit niya ‘yong tinawag na meniscus, that is a structure sa tuhod. Napunit niya ‘yon while he was attempting to stand. So, that should be very painful (What we call as the meniscus was ripped, that is a structure at the knee. He separated it (mensicus) forcefully while he was attempting to stand up. So that should be very painful),’’ Syquia explained.
Syquia furthered that the type of tear would usually require surgery, but maintained that the decision would depend on the patient.
“We saw that it was a complete tear. It’s a pretty bad tear kasi kapag napunit ‘yong meniscus at that point, it’s as if you have no meniscus at all (We saw it as a complete tear. It’s a pretty bad tear because if the meniscus is torn at that point, it’s as if you have no meniscus at all),’’ Syquia expounded.
