Filipinos in US urged to stay updated on visa reviews, immigration policy developments

PH Embassy in Washington advises Filipino nationals to stay informed and comply with US immigration laws amid reports that some B1/B2 visas are under review

The Philippine Embassy in Washington, D.C., has advised Filipino nationals in the United States to stay informed about recent developments in US immigration and visa policies and to ensure compliance with applicable immigration laws.

In an advisory issued on August 26, the Embassy said recent reports indicate that the US Department of State “has begun reviewing B1/B2 business and tourist visas issued to foreign nationals who subsequently applied for asylum in the United States.”
It added that visa revocations are also “expected to be undertaken on a rolling basis.”
The Embassy did not say how many Filipino nationals could be affected by the reported visa reviews, stressing that immigration cases are determined by the appropriate US authorities based on the circumstances of each case.
Filipinos urged to seek legal advice
“Filipino nationals who have concerns regarding their current immigration status are strongly encouraged to consult a qualified US immigration attorney or an accredited legal service provider for advice appropriate to their individual circumstances,” the Embassy said.
The Embassy also reminded members of the Filipino community in the United States to remain aware of changes in immigration policies and comply with applicable US laws.
The advisory comes amid continuing developments in US immigration enforcement and visa policies, which could affect foreign nationals depending on their individual circumstances and immigration status.
Assistance for Filipinos in emergency cases
“The Embassy reminds the Filipino community that immigration cases are determined by the appropriate US authorities based on the circumstances of each case,” the Embassy said.
The Embassy also emphasized that immigration matters are decided by the appropriate US authorities and encouraged Filipinos with questions about their status to seek qualified legal advice rather than rely on general information that may not apply to their individual circumstances.
For emergency consular assistance and Assistance-to-Nationals (ATN) concerns, Filipino nationals may contact the Philippine Embassy in Washington, D.C., through its designated emergency hotlines or email.
