San Juan City Mayor Francis Zamora expressed hope that the city’s education programs will continue even after his term as mayor, as the local government distributed customized rubber shoes and physical education uniforms to 13,000 public school students.

Zamora led the distribution of the second version of the Makabagong San Juan customized rubber shoes and P.E. uniforms for K-12 students at the Makabagong San Juan Theater.

“This is something that we will continue to do hangga't nandito po ako as mayor. At kung magtuloy-tuloy po ang ating Makabagong San Juan governance framework, ay tiwala po ako na tuloy-tuloy rin po itong mapapatupad sa mga darating na panahon kahit wala na po si Mayor Francis Zamora bilang mayor ng San Juan (This is something we will continue to do for as long as I am mayor. And if our Makabagong San Juan governance framework continues, I am confident that these programs will also continue in the years ahead even when I am no longer mayor of San Juan),” he said.

The city government said this is the second time customized rubber shoes have been distributed to all public school students in San Juan.

The mayor said the shoes were specially designed and manufactured for the city’s 13,000 public school students and are not commercially available.

The students also received P.E. uniforms as part of the city government’s educational assistance program.

The initiative aims to help ease expenses for families and ensure that students have the school essentials they need.

Aside from shoes and uniforms, San Juan public school students have also received tablets, while classrooms have been equipped with fiber optic internet connectivity and 55-inch smart TVs.

The city government also provides P3,000 in educational assistance to families of public school students, as well as cash incentives for honor students and graduating students.

Public school teachers, meanwhile, are provided with laptops and financial incentives.

The mayor said providing students with their needs allows them to focus more on their studies.

He also cited San Juan’s 95 percent functional literacy rate in the Philippine Statistics Authority’s 2024 Functional Literacy, Education and Mass Media Survey (FLEMMS), which ranked the city first among highly urbanized cities in the country.

The city government said it intends to continue investing in public education under the Makabagong San Juan governance framework.
