Kit Harington to play Gilderoy Lockhart in 'Harry Potter' Season 2, replacing Nicholas Hoult

From Westeros to Hogwarts!

According to Deadline, Kit will play Gilderoy Lockhart in Season 2 of HBO’s "Harry Potter" series. Nicholas Hoult, who was previously cast in the role, left the project due to scheduling conflicts.

The news also mentioned that Kit was “excited” to take over the role.

The "Game of Thrones" alum previously voiced the character in Audible’s "Harry Potter: The Full-Cast Audio Editions" in 2025.

In the popular book series, Lockhart is a famous but arrogant wizard who becomes Hogwarts’ new Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher, despite being clearly unqualified for the job.

Kenneth Branagh played the character in the 2002 film "Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets."

The growing Harry Potter cast includes John Lithgow as Professor Albus Dumbledore, Janet McTeer as Professor Minerva McGonagall and Johnny Flynn as Lucius Malfoy.

Arabella Stanton, Alastair Stout and Dominic McLaughlin star as Hermione Granger, Ron Weasley and Harry Potter.

Season 1 of the TV series will arrive on HBO Max this December.
