Rex Orange County proves once again why Pinoys consider him their best friend
After headlining his first concert here back in 2023, Rex Orange County, whose real name is Alexander James O'Connor, has once again proved that he is Manila's best friend.
During his exclusive Asia show presented by LALALA Festival and Willbros Live, Rex made sure to give his Filipino fans a night to remember. And, honestly, he more than lived up to their expectations.
But we are getting ahead of ourselves here.
Before Rex took the stage, OPM artists Over October and MAKI set the mood as the opening acts, performing their hit songs “Kaakit-akit,” “Paikot-ikot,” “Dilaw,” “Saan,” and “Kahel na Langit.”
These two acts certainly knew how to get the crowd going.
A few minutes later, however, the excitement reached another level.
The arena filled with deafening cheers as the lights dimmed and Rex finally appeared onstage, dressed in a laid-back outfit and cap, looking as relaxed as ever.
The crowd went wild when he opened the show with “Television,” “AMAZING,” “The Shade,” and “Never Enough.”
He then introduced himself and asked the audience if they were ready to have fun and enjoy some good music.
“What’s up, Manila! My name is Rex Orange County. Are you ready to have a fantastic evening with me?”
The answer was, well, pretty obvious.
He followed with “Face to Face” and “Pluto Projector,” before giving the Manila crowd something extra special: a live performance of his newest single, “Indecision.”
By this point, Rex was clearly feeling the love from his Filipino fans.
And there was certainly no shortage of songs.
Aside from “Indecision,” Rex gave fans an exclusive listening experience with “Belly,” “Rearrange My World,” “Boyfriend”—my favorite—and “Take a Drive.”
Then came the songs many in the audience had been waiting for.
“Corduroy Dream,” “Untitled,” and “Loving Is Easy” sent the concert into another frenzy.
Rex took time to thank his Filipino fans for showing up and, perhaps knowing exactly what they wanted to hear, made a promise.
“Manila! Thank you for having us tonight! And I promise I will be back to play more songs for you.”
He went on with “Sunflower” and “Happiness,” seemingly bringing the night to its emotional close.
But Manila wasn't quite ready to let him go.
Rex returned for a surprise encore, performing “4 Seasons.”
And just like that, another Rex Orange County Manila night came to an end with thousands of fans, including this writer, hoping that his next visit won't take another three years.
