San Juan police caution public against AI-generated PNP uniform images

Authorities have reminded the public to use artificial intelligence (AI) responsibly after AI-generated images showing people in Philippine National Police (PNP) uniforms circulated on social media.
On Friday, Aug. 21, the San Juan City police warned that such images could mislead the public into believing the person is a police officer or that the PNP endorses certain activities.
“We recognize that AI is a powerful tool for creativity, entertainment, appreciation, and positive-self expression. Some may simply wish to visualize themselves wearing a police uniform as part of a personal dream or creative project,” the police said.
They added that while using technology for positive purposes is acceptable, it must be done responsibly and without creating false impressions.
Police further cautioned that the unauthorized reproduction or alteration of PNP uniforms, insignia, badges, identification cards, ranks, logos, or other official markings in AI-generated content may give the false impression that a person is an actual police officer or that the PNP officially endorses or is connected with a particular activity.
The San Juan City Police Station emphasized that the PNP uniform represents public service, authority, discipline, integrity, and responsibility, as well as the trust placed in police officers by the Filipino people.
They stressed that as technology evolves, so must the responsibility that comes with using it.
“Let us ensure that AI-generated content is clearly understood as fictional, creative, or AI-generated, whenever necessary, and never intentionally presented as an authentic representation of a police officer or official PNP activity,” the statement said.
