A Norwegian company hass scrapped its plan to build a hyperscale AI data center in Oton, Iloilo.
Full reasons remain unclear, citing only the "current circumstances."
On the evening of Sun, Aug. 16, Norway Green Energy sent a formal notice to the Oton local government about the withdrawal.
Perhaps it is only a coincidence, but the withdrawal comes just days after a public hearing on Aug. 14, where Daniel Stefan Robertsen, an executive of Norway Green Energy, was asked multiple questions about the data center. It's been reported then that Robertsen abruptly walked out of the venue, visibly frustrated, and even cursed at journalists covering the event.
Robertsen's outburst has triggered condemnation, seen by Filipino netizens as disrespectful. The Iloilo chapter of the National Union of Journalists of the Philippines denounced Robertsen's conduct. There have been calls to declare Robertsen persona non grata.
