“2 Valid IDs” is emerging as the film to beat at the 22nd Cinemalaya Philippine Independent Film Festival.
The film, led by Pokwang, topped the box-office rankings released by Cinemalaya on August 14 across its reported Metro Manila venues.
Its strong showing has made “2 Valid IDs” one of the biggest audience draws of this year’s festival as Cinemalaya heads into its final days.
“Status: Rejected,” starring veteran actress Ruby Ruiz, emerged as its closest challenger. The film also posted strong results across several venues, although its ranking varied from one cinema to another.
Other entries also attracted audiences throughout the festival.
“Mag-iina,” featuring Janine Gutierrez, Lucas Andalio, Cherry Pie Picache, Agot Isidro, Ness Roque and Jackie Lou Blanco, appeared in the Top 4 at several venues.
“Tayo Lang Ang Nakakaalam,” starring Martin del Rosario and Miguel Odron, also made the Top 4 in multiple cinemas.
“Ganggang” and “A.Ni.Mal.” likewise appeared among the leading films at selected venues.
The box-office results add another interesting layer to this year’s festival, which features nine full-length entries.
The strong audience response could also add to the anticipation surrounding the acting awards, with Pokwang and Ruiz among the performers drawing attention for their respective films.
The Cinemalaya 2026 awards ceremony is set for August 17 at 7 p.m. at the Grand Atrium of Shangri-La Plaza.
