'Habagat' to continue affecting Luzon, western Visayas over next 5 days — PAGASA

The southwest monsoon or “habagat” is expected to continue affecting Luzon and parts of Visayas over the next five days, bringing moderate to heavy rains to several areas, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said on Sunday, Aug. 16.
PAGASA weather specialist Aldczar Aurelio said rainfall of 50 to 100 millimeters, considered as moderate to heavy, may persist over Ilocos Sur, La Union, Pangasinan, Benguet, and Zambales from Sunday noon to Monday noon, Aug. 17.
From Monday noon to Tuesday noon, Aug. 18, moderate to heavy rains are expected over Ilocos Sur, La Union, Pangasinan, Benguet, Zambales, Bataan, and Occidental Mindoro.
The rains may continue from Tuesday noon to Wednesday noon, Aug. 19, over Ilocos Sur, La Union, Pangasinan, Benguet, Zambales, Bataan, Tarlac, Pampanga, Cavite, Batangas, Occidental Mindoro, and Antique.
Aurelio warned that localized flooding is possible, particularly in urbanized and low lying areas and those near rivers. Landslides are also possible in areas highly susceptible to the hazard.
Over the next 24 hours, Metro Manila, Visayas, and the rest of Luzon will experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms.
The rest of the country will generally have fair weather, although isolated rain showers or thunderstorms may occur in the afternoon or evening.
Meanwhile, the low-pressure area located 2,335 kilometers east-northeast of extreme Northern Luzon, outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility, is expected to dissipate within the next few hours.
Aurelio said the LPA is not expected to affect any part of the country.
