Teenage student who assaulted Bacolod cop with a brass knuckle yields

BACOLOD CITY - A 16-year-old Grade 11 student who reportedly punched and injured a policeman with a brass knuckle, surrendered to the authorities hours after the incident happened outside a public high school in Barangay Granada here on Friday, August 14.
Police Capt. Andy Ofalia, head of Police Station 5, said the student was accompanied by his mother when he surfaced at the police station and talked to the injured police officer.
Ofalia said the student apologized for what he did and acknowledged the mistake he had committed.
However, the 40-year-old policeman is eager to press direct assault charges against the student.
Ofalia said the student has been placed under the custody of the Social Development Center, which caters to children in conflict with the law (CICL).
The incident happened when police officers who were passing through the area during lunch break, saw a group of students skateboarding, while several students and parents were also crossing the road.
The policeman approached the group and told them to stop skateboarding because of the danger and the traffic obstruction.
While he was speaking with another student, however, one of the group members allegedly attacked him using a brass knuckle.
The victim, a Police Master Sgt., sustained an injury below his left eye.
