Marvel drops 'VisionQuest' trailer at D23, bringing back Vision and Ultron

Marvel has dropped the first trailer for "VisionQuest," giving fans their first major look at Paul Bettany's return as Vision and James Spader's comeback as Ultron.

The trailer debuted during the Disney Entertainment Showcase at D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event on Friday at the Honda Center in Anaheim, where Bettany and Spader joined Marvel Studios president and executive producer Kevin Feige onstage.

The trailer and poster were also released online for fans to watch.

In "VisionQuest," Vision has been rebooted and is trying to find a new purpose after escaping those who wanted to weaponize him.

Still struggling to understand his identity and existence, Vision turns to the AI personas embedded in his programming, including F.R.I.D.A.Y., E.D.I.T.H., J.A.R.V.I.S., and Ultron.

His attempt at a quiet life comes to an end after a bounty is placed on him, forcing Vision to go on the run with Thomas Shepard, a mysterious boy who may be connected to him as his son.

The trailer also gives fans a new look at Vision's complicated relationship with Ultron, the artificial intelligence who helped create him and later became one of the MCU's most dangerous villains.

For fans of "WandaVision," the return of Vision is particularly significant. The character last appeared in the 2021 Disney+ series after being rebuilt by S.W.O.R.D. as the all-white Vision. "VisionQuest" picks up his story as he attempts to reconcile his new existence with the memories of the original Vision.

Spader's return as Ultron is another major draw. The actor last played the character in 2015's "Avengers: Age of Ultron," where the artificial intelligence turned against humanity and was ultimately defeated by Vision.

"VisionQuest" will serve as the final chapter of the television trilogy that began with "WandaVision" in 2021 and continued with "Agatha All Along" in 2024.

Apart from Bettany and Spader, the new series also stars  Ruaridh Mollica, Todd Stashwick, T'Nia Miller, Lauren Morais, Orla Brady, Diane Morgan, Polly Frame, Henry Lewis, Jonathan Sayer, Emily Hampshire, and James D'Arcy.

Christopher J. Byrne, Gandja Monteiro, Vincenzo Natali, and Terry Matalas direct the series.

Matalas also serves as creator for television, with Cindy Appel, Christopher Monfette, Nicole Falsetti, and Matthew Okumura among the writers.

"VisionQuest" premieres exclusively on Disney+ on October 14.
