Marcos: No attacks on anyone from Philippines in case of Taiwan invasion

President Marcos has once again stressed that the Philippines will not engage in any hostility in the region, saying there will be no attacks on anyone from the Philippines.
During the Foreign Correspondents Association of the Philippines (FOCAP) Presidential Luncheon in Manila on Friday, Aug. 14, Marcos was asked whether he would allow the US military to launch offensive operations from Philippine bases and territory if an invasion of Taiwan were to occur.
Marcos firmly stated that the Philippines has no desire to be a belligerent nation in the region. All it is concerned about is promoting peace and stability, he stressed.
"The Philippines has no desire to be a belligerent nation in the region. We have no interest in that. All we are concerned about is the defense of our territory and the maintenance of peace and stability in the region," Marcos said.
"That is all that the Philippines is concerned with. That is all the concern that Philippines will promote. That is all that the Philippines will endorse and support," he added.
The President emphasized that allowing an attack from the country against anyone contradicts its policy of maintaning regional peace and stability.
"So to allow an attack on anyone from the Philippines is contrary to that policy. So we will stick with that policy, where all that we do is work hard to maintain peace and stability in the region," Marcos said.

PH has no influence on what other countries do

Marcos pointed out that whatever other countries do, the Philippines has no influence over it. Thus, it will only stick with its policies and duty to defend its territory, to exercise its sovereign rights
"What other countries choose to do is really not something that the Philippines has much influence on. So again, what the United States or any other country chooses to do is certainly an internal matter for them and how they choose to handle their own foreign policy," the President said.
"When it involves the Philippines, again, we hew back to that policy, where we are not interested in being a belligerent force. We are simply interested in the defense of the republic, a continued exercise of our sovereign rights, and the recognition of our territorial independence," he added.
The President has repeatedly stated that the country will not interefere in any internal affairs of other countries, including the issue between China and Taiwan.
