Marcos visits Las Piñas flood evacuees, leads aid distribution

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Secretary Rex Gatchalian checked on 155 families displaced by flooding in Las Piñas City on Tuesday, Aug. 11, after inspecting flood‑mitigation efforts at Alido Bridge in Barangay Zapote.

The families were temporarily staying at the Verdant Covered Court in Barangay Pamplona Tres after an overflowing river caused floodwaters to rise to dangerous levels in several parts of the city.

Following the inspection at Alido Bridge, Marcos proceeded to the evacuation center with Gatchalian to personally assess the condition of the displaced families and their immediate needs.

The President led the distribution of food and non‑food items (FNFIs), including family food packs, sleeping kits, clothing kits, and maternity kits.

Marcos also inquired about the families’ situation while they remain unable to return home and determined what additional assistance they may require.

Las Piñas City Mayor Imelda Aguilar joined Marcos and Gatchalian during the visit, along with DSWD Disaster Response Management Group Assistant Secretary Irene Dumlao, DSWD Field Office–National Capital Region Regional Director Atty. Michael Joseph Lorico, and Assistant Regional Director for Operations Bienvenido Barbosa Jr.

The visit was part of the government’s continuing response to communities affected by flooding brought about by continuous heavy rains.
