ZAMBOANGA CITY- An Army corporal was killed while two others were wounded after motorcycle-riding gunmen fired at them in broad daylight in Sulu Province on Wednesday, August 12.
A report from the Indanan Municipal Police station identified the fatality as Cpl Aldrin A Wanson, 34.
Investigation showed that Wanson and two other Army soldiers assigned to the 41st Infantry Battalion, 11th Infantry Division, Philippine Army at Camp Bud Datu in Barangay Tigbak were riding a motorcycle at around 8:30am when they were tailed by the suspects travelling on another motorcycle.
Upon reaching the portion of the highway along kilometer 4 in Sitio Kasambuhan, the suspects opened fire, hitting Wanson on the back of the head, killing him instantly.
Corporal Philip P. Wiga, 31, and Corporal Benjie C. Jacinto sustained gunshot wounds which were treated at the Kuta Heneral Teodulfo Bautista Station Hospital.
Sulu Provincial Forensic Unit and Scene of the Crime operatives recovered spent shells from a .45 caliber firearm.
Police are continuing their investigation.
Meanwhile, the 11th Infantry “Alakdan” Division, Philippine Army strongly condemns the armed attack against three of its personnel.
They are appealing for the cooperation of the community and encourage anyone with relevant information to coordinate with authorities.
