2 suspects nabbed for Negros town village councilor slay

BACOLOD CITY - The Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office (Nocppo), arrested two of the four suspects linked in the killing of Kagawad Joe of Barangay Santa Rosa, Murcia, Negros Occidental.

Authorities first arrested 42-year-old Jo, a construction worker, in Barangay Zone 2, Murcia on Monday, August 10. He is listed as top 9 most wanted person at the regional level, according to the Police Regional Office-Negros Island Region (PRO-NIR).
In a separate operation, 52-year-old Angi, also a construction worker, was arrested in Barangay Zone 2, Murcia on Tuesday, August 11.
These two suspects, along with two others were identified through sustained investigative efforts of the Special Investigation Taks Group (SITG), leading to the filing of murder charges on Feb. 13.
The victim had just alighted from a vehicle after participating in a clean-up drive when an
unidentified assailant allegedly suddenly shot him in the head before fleeing toward the town proper on Jan. 26 in Puncian, Barangay Santa Rosa, Murcia.
In a statement, Police Brig. Gen. Romano Cardiño, PRO-NIR director, said the arrest of the accused is a significant step forward in the pursuit of justice for the barangay official.
"But our work does not end here. We will continue to pursue every lead, strengthen our intelligence and investigative efforts, and intensify operations to locate the remaining accused," he added.
Cardiño vowed that they will remain relentless until all those responsible are brought before the law through lawful, intelligence-driven, and evidence-based police operations.
"We ensure that all individuals found responsible are held accountable through the proper legal processes," he said.
