The Malabon City government distributed food and relief supplies to evacuees sheltering in centers as rains from the southwest monsoon, or habagat, persisted.

Mayor Jeannie Sandoval led the distribution of food packs to evacuees at Tinajeros Elementary School, Panghulo Elementary School, and Maysilo Elementary School.

As of Monday, Aug. 10, the city government said 20 families comprising 121 individuals were staying in the three temporary shelters.

The food packs contained rice, noodles, canned goods, coffee, and drinking water to help address the immediate needs of the evacuees.

“Ang mahalaga ay ligtas ang ating mga Malabueño. Patuloy nating tututukan ang kanilang pangangailangan at sisiguraduhin nating may agarang tulong na maibibigay habang sila ay nasa ating evacuation centers (What is important is that our Malabueños are safe. We will continue to monitor their needs and ensure that immediate assistance is provided while they are staying in our evacuation centers),” Sandoval said.

She also urged residents to coordinate with the city government and local authorities amid the prevailing weather conditions.

“Kasabay nito, ating hinihikayat ang mga mamamayan na makiisa at makipag-ugnayan sa pamahalaang lungsod upang masiguro ang kaligtasan ng bawat isa sa panahon na kinakailangan (At the same time, we encourage residents to cooperate and coordinate with the city government to help ensure everyone’s safety when needed),” the mayor added.

The local government also extended assistance to six members of a family affected by a fire along Celia 2 in Barangay Bayan-Bayanan on Sunday, Aug. 9.

The family is temporarily staying at the Bayan-Bayanan Hall after the fire broke out at around 9:30 p.m. and was extinguished at around 9:57 p.m.

Food packs were also provided to two residents who sustained minor injuries while helping authorities rescue individuals during the incident.

City Administrator Dr. Alexander Rosete reminded residents to remain alert and prepared, particularly amid inclement weather.

“Paalala po sa ating mga kababayan na mag-ingat upang makaiwas sa anumang sakuna lalo na sa panahon na kagaya nito. Maging alerto at handa (We remind our residents to take precautions to avoid any disaster, especially during weather conditions like these. Stay alert and prepared),” he said.

“Sa pangunguna ng ating Mayor Jeannie Sandoval, sisiguruhin natin na ang mga kinakailangan ng ating mga kababayan ay matutugunan (Under the leadership of Mayor Jeannie Sandoval, we will ensure that the needs of our residents are addressed),” Rosete added.

The city government said it will continue providing assistance and basic necessities to residents affected by heavy rains and other emergencies.
