Police confiscate 858 illegal firearms in Western Visayas

ILOILO CITY—The Police Regional Office (PRO-6) was able to confiscate 858 illegal firearms across Western Visayas over a two-month period.

Brigadier General Randulf T. Tuaño, PRO-6 regional director, personally inspected the firearms that were voluntarily surrendered between May 15 to July 31, 2026.

The recovery of the illegal firearms was part of Project Restrict, Track, and Turn-in or PROJECT R.T.T.

“Bawat baril na boluntaryong isinusuko ay isang baril na hindi na posibleng mapunta sa maling kamay. Para sa amin, buhay na maaaring mailigtas iyon at insidenteng maaaring maiwasan (Every firearm voluntarily surrendered is one that can no longer fall into the wrong hands. For us, that represents a life potentially saved and an incident potentially averted),” said Tuaño.

“Mas mabuting maagap tayong kumilos at makipagtulungan sa komunidad kaysa hintayin pang magamit ang mga baril sa krimen (It is better to take proactive measures and collaborate with the community than to wait until these firearms are used in the commission of a crime),” added Tuaño.

Colonel Adrian Accolador, chief of PRO-6’s Regional Division Operation, said that Iloilo Police Provincial Office (Iloilo PPO) had the most number of retrieval with 410 firearms.

Antique PPO ranked second with 129 firearms retrieved while Aklan PPO ranked third with 97 firearms recovered.

There were also 95 firearms recovered by Capiz PPO, 59 by Iloilo City Police Office, 57 by Regional Mobile Force Battalion (RMFB-6), and 11 by Guimaras PPO.
