ACX Holdings Corp., the retail investment unit of local conglomerate Ayala Corp., has launched a specialized retail operating platform to scale international consumer brands in the country, aiming to capture a larger share of resilient domestic consumer spending.
In a statement, Ayala said the newly formed entity, ACX Retail, will function as an operational launchpad designed to introduce, roll out, and manage overseas fashion, lifestyle, and specialty retail concepts nationwide.
The strategic move highlights how major Philippine conglomerates are doubling down on consumer-driven growth as private consumption continues to serve as a primary engine of the domestic economy.
By leveraging Ayala’s extensive real estate footprint, logistics infrastructure, and consumer data ecosystem, ACX Retail plans to mitigate operational friction for foreign entrants seeking to establish a long-term presence in Southeast Asia's fast-growing retail market.
Earlier this year, ACX Holdings established joint ventures with several prominent global retailers, including Australian value retailer Anko, Thailand-based wholesale operator Makro, United Arab Emirates grocery chain Spinneys, and South Korea’s apparel label Musinsa Standard.
ACX Retail will serve as the dedicated execution arm for these ventures, with a focus on adapting foreign business models to local consumer preferences while scaling store rollouts nationwide.
“At ACX, our role is to help exceptional brands succeed in the Philippine market by combining their strengths with our understanding of local consumers, our retail capabilities, and the reach of the Ayala ecosystem,” Mark Uy, head of corporate strategy and business development at Ayala, said.
He added that these commercial partnerships align with the group's broader mandate to expand consumer choice while sharpening the overall competitiveness of the domestic retail industry.
Executives at the company stressed that brand acquisition will remain selective, targeting international concepts with proven commercial viability and distinct brand equity tailored to evolving middle-class demographics in the Philippines.
“Filipino consumers are increasingly looking for quality, relevance, and differentiated experiences,” said Rohit Kohli, chief retail officer at ACX Retail. “Our focus is to bring the right global concepts to the Philippines and build them into sustainable businesses that create long-term value.”
Through the launch of ACX Retail, Ayala is broadening its consumer-facing portfolio beyond traditional shopping mall development into active brand operations and merchandise management. The enterprise aims to position itself as the preferred local joint-venture partner for multinational retail corporations seeking sustainable expansion in the Philippine market.
