Malabon DRRMO warns residents as La Mesa Dam nears spilling level

The Malabon City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (DRRMO) warned residents on Monday, Aug. 10, to remain alert and prepare for possible evacuation as the water level at La Mesa Dam neared its spilling level.

As of 10 a.m., the city government said the dam’s water level had reached 80.05 meters, just 0.10 meter below its 80.15-meter spilling level.
It added that the water level of the Tullahan River was recorded at 12 meters, nearing its 12.5-meter spilling level.
The Malabon DRRMO advised residents to prepare emergency go-bags, move belongings to higher areas, and be ready to evacuate once instructed by the city government or barangay officials.
Authorities also urged residents to remain vigilant as the city continues to monitor La Mesa Dam and the Tullahan River amid persistent rains.
Meanwhile, at least 24 families have already evacuated due to flooding in several parts of the city.
The city government said 16 families are staying at Tinajeros Elementary School, five at Maysilo Elementary School, and three at Panghulo Elementary School.
As of 8 a.m., flooding was reported in 15 areas, although all monitored roads remained passable to all types of vehicles.
Floodwaters reached gutter level, or around six inches, in Sitio 6 in Barangay Catmon, Burgos in Barangay Concepcion, Don Basilio in Barangay Hulong Duhat, M.H. Del Pilar in Barangay Maysilo, and Silver Swan in Barangay Panghulo.
Flooding ranging from one to six inches was also recorded in parts of Dampalit, Ibaba, San Agustin, Santulan, and Tañong.
No flooding was monitored in Acacia, Baritan, Bayan-Bayanan, Flores, Longos, Muzon, Niugan, Potrero, Tinajeros, Tonsuya, Tugatog, and several other areas as of 8 a.m.
The city government said monitoring of flood conditions and water levels is ongoing.
