‎BACOLOD CITY - The Diocese of Bacolod is set to welcome Most Rev. Louie Galbines as its seventh bishop, succeeding Bishop Patricio Buzon, who is retiring at the age of 75.
‎During a press briefing, Rev. Fr. Lou-An Torrefranca said Galbines was born in Sagay City, Negros Occidental, but was raised by his parents in Barrio Ma-ao, Bago City, Negros Occidental.
‎Galbines was ordained to the priesthood at San Sebastian Cathedral here, making his appointment as the new shepherd of the Diocese of Bacolod a homecoming, Torrefranca said.
‎Pope Leo XIV appointed Galbines as the new bishop of this highly-urbanized city on May 14.

On Monday, Aug. 10, Galbines will officially leave the Diocese of Kabankalan in Negros Occidental, and stop at Tanolo Bridge in Hinigaran, Negros Occidental, the boundary between the Dioceses of Kabankalan and Bacolod, at around 1 p.m.

He is expected to leave his footprint on a commemorative marker prepared by the local government of Hinigaran before proceeding to Bacolod City via motorcade.

Upon his arrival in the city, Monsignor Ronald Quijano will formally welcome Galbines, followed by a procession from the replica of the Bacolod City Government Center (BCGC) at the public plaza to San Sebastian Cathedral at 4:30 p.m.
‎Galbines will be accompanied by fellow bishops and priests during the procession to the cathedral.
‎The Rite of Canonical Installation will be presided over by Archbishop Charles John Brown, Apostolic Nuncio to the Philippines, on Tuesday, Aug. 11, at 9 a.m. at San Sebastian Cathedral.
‎Cardinal Jose Fuerte Advincula, archbishop of Manila, will deliver the homily during the ceremony.
‎Around 200 priests are expected to attend the solemn and significant occasion. Traffic management and security measures have been coordinated with law enforcement agencies and the Bacolod City government.
‎Catholic schools in the city have expressed excitement in welcoming the new bishop.
Rev. Fr. Mitch Guadalupe said Buzon plans to spend his retirement years with the Don Bosco Fathers in Cebu City.
‎Buzon was canonically installed as bishop of the Diocese of Bacolod at the San Sebastian Cathedral on Aug. 9, 2016, after  he was appointed by then  Pope Francis.
