Mayor Maan alerts DPWH over flooding due to non-operational pumping station

The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) on Sunday afternoon, Aug. 9, said it will deploy a mobile pump to help ease flooding in Barangays Malanday and Tumana, Marikina City, after Mayor Maan Teodoro alerted the agency about the situation.

Teodoro said flooding was reported around 2:15 p.m. in Libis Bulelak in Malanday and Creekside in Tumana, allegedly due to non-operational Tumana Pumping Station, which reportedly affected the drainage of water from the affected areas.
“We won't allow this. Tinawagan at agad na nating inalerto ang DPWH at ang kanilang contractor (We immediately called and alerted the DPWH and its contractor),” she said.
“Malinaw ang instruction natin: ayusin at paandarin ang pumping station IMMEDIATELY (Our instruction is clear: repair and operate the pumping station immediately),” the mayor emphasized.
Around 4 p.m., the mayor said DPWH Secretary Vince Dizon had informed her that the pumping station technician was on the way, along with the mobile pump.
The mayor added that they also coordinated with Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) Chairman Don Artes, who said the MMDA would deploy booster pumps to help ease flooding in two barangays.
She thanked DPWH and MMDA for their prompt response to the city’s request.
As of 6 p.m., the second alarm remained in effect at the Marikina River, with its water level at 17.5 meters. Residents were advised to voluntarily evacuate.
