Arrest of all Taguig's most wanted for July hailed as PNP steps up drive vs fugitives

Authorities arrested the 10 most wanted persons in Taguig City for the month of July, the way the Philippine National Police (PNP) wants it to be when it ordered all police commanders to regularly update its wanted list as part of the renewed efforts against fugitives.
PNP chief Gen. Jose Melencio C. Nartatez, Jr. earlier explained that the accounting of wanted persons is itself a crime prevention measure since a number of them were involved in at least two more criminal activities.
He also tasked police commanders to regularly update the arrest warrants.
In the case of Taguig, those arrested are facing various cases that include rape, acts of lasciviousness and child abuse, as well as violations involving illegal drugs and falsification of public documents.
Taguig Chief of Police Col. Julius Añonuevo said the arrests were carried out through sustained intelligence gathering, surveillance and the implementation of outstanding warrants.
He said the accomplishment demonstrates the persistence of police personnel in locating wanted persons and enforcing court-issued warrants, and the support of the local government unit, particularly Mayor Lani Cayetano.
"Every warrant served is the result of determined police work. We will continue to track down wanted persons, carry out our duties professionally and help ensure that cases against them proceed through the justice system,” said Añonuevo.
In separate anti-drug operations, police seized a combined 201.39 grams of suspected shabu worth about ₱1.37 million, including a ₱1.02-million haul from a high-value individual along C6 Road.
Taguig police also identified a woman whose body was found inside a suitcase in Barangay Tanyag and arrested three individuals after investigators traced the case to a suspected crime scene and recovered evidence that helped establish her identity and the circumstances surrounding her death.
In another high-profile case, police arrested a suspect positively identified in connection with the viral gunpoint robbery of an online seller, recovering a firearm and a hand grenade during the operation.
