Police recorded no incident of murder, robbery and six other focus crimes in Western Visayas during the 24-hour period from Friday morning, the second time lawmen achieved the feat for this month.
Aside from murder and robbery, the six other focus crimes are homicide, physical injury, rape, theft, carnapping of motor vehicles, and motorcycle theft.
Brig. Gen. Randulf T. Tuaño, director of the Police Regional Office 6, attributed the zero focus crimes to police visibility and strategic deployment especially in areas with a history of high criminal incidents.
The zero focus crimes were recorded from 6 a.m. of Aug. 7 to 5:59 a.m. of Aug. 8. The first time this fete was recorded this month was from 6 a.m. of Aug. 5 to 5:59 a.m. of Aug. 6.
“This is an encouraging result, but it should not make us complacent. We cannot afford to relax. We have to remain visible, responsive, and ready because our priority is to prevent incidents before they happen and ensure that our communities feel safe,” said Tuaño.
The crime prevention measures, he said, has been reinforced by aggressive law enforcement operations that resulted in the arrest of wanted persons and individuals involved in illegal drugs, illegal gambling, and other violations of law.
For instance, he said the anti-illegal fishing operation resulted in the arrest of three individuals and the confiscation of items valued at ₱453,000.00, while 12 anti-smuggling operations were conducted during the period.
He said police units also continued operations against loose firearms and other forms of criminality.
Tuaño emphasized that maintaining peace and order requires sustained police presence as well as active cooperation from the community.
“Peace and order is a shared responsibility. We continue to encourage our communities to remain vigilant, report suspicious activities through proper channels such as Unified 911, and work closely with the police,” said Tuaño.
“When law enforcement and the community stand together, we can do more to prevent crime and keep our communities safe,” he added.
