‎PRO-NIR honors fallen cop for rescue attempt

‎BACOLOD CITY - The Police Regional Office-Negros Island Region (PRO-NIR) honored the sacrifice of Police Master Sgt. Fernando Marfa who drowned while saving his three companions during a river patrol in Barangay Luna, Cadiz City, Negros Occidental on Friday, Aug. 7.
‎"Marfa exemplified the true meaning of service above self. His final act was one of extraordinary courage, choosing to risk his own life to save others," said Police Brig. Gen. Romano Cardiño, PRO-NIR director.
‎“We mourn the loss of a dedicated police officer, a brave public servant, and a hero,” Cardiño added.
‎The PRO-NIR condoled with Marfa’s family and assured them that his sacrifice will always be remembered and honored.
‎Cardiño said that Marfa’s selfless act of courage and unwavering commitment to protect and save others, even at the cost of his own life, embody the highest ideals of public service and the noblest traditions of the Philippine National Police (PNP).
‎He said they remain steadfast in honoring the heroism and dedication of personnel who faithfully fulfill their sworn duty of protecting lives and serving the people, even in the face of great danger.
‎Marfa was patrolling with members of the Bantay Dagat when river water entered their motorboat. The policeman's companions were swept away by river water.
‎He tried to rescue his companions but he was overpowered by strong river current and drowned. Marfa was taken to a hospital where he was declared dead.
