Negros cop drowns while saving companions

BACOLOD CITY – A 40-year-old policeman drowned while saving his companions on a river in Sitio Bisang, Barangay Luna, Cadiz City, Negros Occidental on Friday, Aug. 7.
The victim was identified as Police Master Sgt. Fernando Marfa, assigned to the Cadiz City Police Station.
Police Lt. Daleen Grace Loreno, deputy chief of Cadiz City Police Station, said the victim was patrolling with Bantay Dagat when river water started to enter their motorboat.
The policeman's companions were swept away by strong current due to heavy rain. The victim tried to rescue his companions but was overpowered by the strong current and drowned.
His body was retrieved from the river and the victim was declared dead in a hospital.
