Heavy rains suspend classes in Metro Manila areas, nearby provinces

Several local government units (LGUs) in Metro Manila and nearby provinces suspended face-to-face classes on Friday, Aug. 7, due to the expected rains brought about by the southwest monsoon (Habagat), enhanced by Tropical Storm Maymay.
Among the areas that announced class suspensions were Manila, San Juan, Mandaluyong, Marikina, Quezon City, Caloocan, Malabon, Valenzuela, Pasay, Parañaque, and Las Piñas.
Mandaluyong City suspended in-person classes in all levels in both public and private schools.
Marikina and San Juan also announced the suspension of classes at all levels in both public and private schools.
In Quezon City, face-to-face classes in public schools were suspended following the recommendation of the Quezon City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (QCDRRMC) due to the expected bad weather and PAGASA’s Yellow Heavy Rainfall Advisory. The suspension covers Child Development Centers, Kindergarten, Grades 1–12, and the Alternative Learning System (ALS).
Caloocan City suspended face-to-face classes in all levels in public and private schools. Malabon City also suspended face-to-face classes in all levels.
Valenzuela City announced the suspension of face-to-face classes in all levels in public and private schools due to expected heavy rains and possible flooding. Classes will continue through alternative delivery modes.
Manila Mayor Francisco "Isko" Moreno Domagoso also ordered the suspension of classes at all levels in both public and private schools upon the recommendation of the Manila City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Department (MCDRRMD).

The MCDRRMD said the latest weather models and rainfall outlook from PAGASA indicate continued rainfall, ranging from light to moderate, with occasional heavy rains.

Schools were advised to shift to the Alternative Delivery Mode (ADM).
Pasay, Parañaque, and Las Piñas also suspended classes at all levels in both public and private schools.
Meanwhile, Cavite Gov. Abeng Remulla announced the suspension of classes at all levels in public and private schools in the province due to the prevailing weather conditions.
In Bulacan, all four cities and 20 municipalities also suspended face-to-face classes at all levels in both public and private schools. Schools will be shifted to alternative delivery modes.
Residents are advised to monitor announcements from their respective LGUs and weather updates from PAGASA for possible further advisories.
