Measure giving DepEd flexibility to determine effective teaching methods lapses into law

Malacañang said a measure granting the Department of Education (DepEd) greater flexibility in determining the most effective teaching methods for the basic education curriculum has lapsed into law.

Republic Act No. 12322 lapsed into law on Aug. 2, 2026.

The law entitled "an act that allows the DepEd the flexibility to determine the pedagogical approaches to be implemented in the basic education curriculum," also requires a comprehensive curriculum review every five years to ensure its relevance and effectiveness.

RA 12322 amended RA 10533, or the "Enhanced Basic Education Act of 2013," which prescribed specific standards and principles for curriculum development.

“The curriculum shall employ the approach deemed most effective by the DepEd to ensure mastery of knowledge and skills after each level,” Section 1 of RA 12322 stated.

The law will take effect 15 days after its publication in the Official Gazette or in a newspaper of general circulation
