26 students faint in Capiz after witnessing altercation

ILOILO CITY – Twenty-six students at Jamindan National High School in Capiz province fainted after witnessing a violent fight between two other students on Tuesday, Aug. 4.
Police Major Jaypee Silvestre, chief of the Jamindan Municipal Police Station, said a 16-year-old male student and 14-year-old student punched each other outside a classroom before 10 a.m. 
The fight between the two students was stopped but other students began fainting.
“Na-nerbiyos siguro sang nakita (They probably were nervous with what they saw),” Silvestre told Manila Bulletin in a phone interview.
Police and personnel from the Jamindan local government unit (LGU) arrived and obtained medical help for the students while classes were suspended for the day. Silvestre said all of the students who fainted have fully recovered and went home.
The fighting students are now under the custody of the Jamindan Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office.
Police clarified initial reports released on social media.
“No stabbing occurred and only mauling among the minors,” police said. “Jamindan police appeal to the public regarding the recent incident to avoid spreading or posting unauthentic or misleading reports, as this may cause unnecessary fear among the families and relatives of those involved minors and the community,” it added.
