- Doc Willie Ong shares a heartfelt message about faith, purpose, and gratitude as he continues his fight against stage 4 sarcoma while wife Doc Liza Ong undergoes treatment for breast cancer.
Despite facing one of the toughest chapters of their lives, doctor-vlogger Doc Willie Ong and his wife, Doc Liza Ong, continue to find strength in faith, service, and each other.
Months after revealing his battle with stage 4 sarcoma and his wife's diagnosis with early-stage invasive ductal carcinoma, the most common form of breast cancer, Doc Willie has shared an emotional message that has touched thousands of followers online.
In an open letter posted on Facebook, the physician-content creator said he has come to accept whatever God has planned for him, even as he continues to undergo treatment for his cancer.
Rather than dwell on their illnesses, Doc Willie said he and his wife have chosen to use their experience to educate Filipinos about the importance of taking their health seriously.
"Ako ay may sarcoma stage 4. Si Doc Liza ay may breast cancer. Imbes na malungkot, ginamit namin ang sakit namin para mag-educate sa ating kababayan," he wrote.
Doc Liza is currently undergoing chemotherapy and immunotherapy following her breast cancer diagnosis, while Doc Willie continues his own fight against stage 4 sarcoma.
In his post, Doc Willie also shared three reminders for the public.
"Huwag magtago sa doctor pag may nararamdaman tulad ng pain o bukol."
He stressed that early detection greatly improves a patient's chances of recovery while reducing treatment costs and extending life.
"Mas maaga malaman ang sakit mo, mas malaki tsansa magamot, mas mura ang gamutan at mas mahaba ang buhay mo."
He also encouraged people to learn more about their illnesses and heed medical advice.
Beyond the health tips, Doc Willie reflected on what gives him the strength to keep going.
He recalled spending the past two decades providing free medical consultations to patients and serving for 10 years through the medical missions of ABS-CBN's "Salamat Dok."
He also expressed gratitude for the unwavering support he has received from his followers.
"Ang pagmamahal ng followers ko ay nakakaantig ng puso ko," he wrote.
In perhaps the most emotional part of his message, Doc Willie said he has found peace regardless of what lies ahead.
"Kung maikli na lang ang buhay ko ay masaya pa rin ako. Dahil alam kong nagawa ko ang misyon ko para sa Diyos at para sa inyo."
